COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1:

1996 Business Appreciation Day

Economic Development Coordinator Gromberg reported that as of August 8, 1996, the City had received
reservations for 31 golf teams for the Business Appreciation Day. This is enough to make the 1996 event
the largest ever hosted by the City. In addition, the City has sponsors for all of the skill holes and a hole-
in-one contest for a new vehicle. This hole-in-one contest is being sponsored by the Landmark
Community Bank. We have received a pledge of a custom design sweatshirt from Choice-Pics, oil
changes from McKays, and a couple dozen golf balls from various sources. As you may be aware, this
leaves us somewhat short of door prizes for the event. With this in mind, the Commission, should divide
the City into sections allowing for each Commissioner to discuss the possibility of prize donations by
local businesses.

Consensus of the Commission was to divide the City along the following lines for prize solicitation:

Allen Stafki
David Kent
Mary Ullen
Ken Wagner
Judy Roff
Carolyn Nelson

Rum River Plaza area
Rivers Bend Plaza area
North side of Highway # 10
South side of Highway #10
Business Park building
Elk River

Commissioner Ullen inquired if the City had received any all-female teams this year.

Mr. Gromberg reported that there were none to-date, but that he was hopeful a team will be signed up by
the event.

Chairperson Wagner asked about the purchase of a door prize donated by the EDC.

Mr. Gro~nberg suggested a traveling golf bag which could be purchased from Lands End for about $60.

Consensus of the EDC was to purchase the bag and collect the money from the EDC members at the next
meeting.

The Commission determined that the plans for the event should continue and that the EDC members
should contact the businesses in their areas.

Case #2:

Groundbrealdng Memento

Economic Development Coordinator Gromberg stated that with the recent increase in the number of new
buildings being constructed in both the AEC Energy Park and Ramsey's Business Park 95, discussions
take place as to how the City memorializes the event. Currently, the groundbreaking ceremony is
completed with a photograph and a press release. It has been suggested that, in the future, a long-term
item be created for these events. With this in mind, the City has contacted some companies that provide
promotional items. One of the suggestions was a Lucite block with a shovel and dirt suspended within.
These blocks would then have a brass plaque attached specifying the day of the groundbreaking and date
of dedication. The Company and the City will each receive one. These (the Lucite block) would be pre-
ordered with the plaques being attached for the events actually occurring. The cost is $22 each with the
plaque, plus the lettering.

Economic Development Commission/August 8, 1996
Page 2 of 4
