There were 266 dog licenses
issued and 61 cat licenses. The vaccinations administered were 252 dog rabies, 87 cat rabies, 296
distemper and 86 PanRC. In an attempt to try and "smooth" the flow of activities, we employed
enough staff help to provide two ongoing lines and a "floater" position for relief and to act as the
"go-for". The fees generated from the issuance of pet licenses totaled $1,188. (Licenses were
provided at a reduced rate as in the past). The amount netted from the shot contributions were
$1,071.41. The Volunteer Recognition Banquets was held on Monday, April 29, 1996, at
Majestic Oaks with in excess of 60 people attending. The total cost of the banquets, not including
staff time for coordinating the event, was $1,274.92. The amount was provided from the 1996
Council Contingency through a budget amendment. The 1996 Tree Sale (22nd annual) minus the
Environmental Expo was held on Saturday, May 4, 1996, at Ramsey Elementary School. The
vendors felt that plant sales were reasonable to good and indicated interest in returning for this
event next year. As in the past, the DNR provided seedlings free of charge. Approximately 1,200
seedlings were given away to residents. The City realized the donation of a number of trees from
vendors participating in the event. Those donated materials have been planted in and around the
municipal campus. Costs incurred was solely staff time and amounted to approximately $150.
The Becky Weiss Memorial Bike Road-eo was held on May 4. It was a big success with 400
children participating and more parents observing. There were numerous donations including 12
bicycles, and the annual tickets to a Twins game. The event started with a cash balance of
$3,676.50. Donations and registrations for the 1996 event totaled $6,094.55 (which includes
$1,000 from the Lions) and expenditures were approximately $6,694.51 (two billings not yet
received). The anticipated carry forward balance for 1997 will be approximately $3,076.54. Ms.
Hart continued with the Spring Recycling Day reporting that it, too, was a big success. Fees
generated at the event were charges for items such as tires and appliances. The total proceeds for
the day amounted to $1,283. Billings have not yet been received from the vendors that participated
but the revenues generated should offset the costs incurred. Ms. Hart stated there are still several
community events to take place in 1996, such as the Spring D.A.R.E. Graduation, the Community
Picnic, Business Expo, Game Fair, Business Appreciation Golf Day, Ramsey Elementary
Dedication, Fall Recycling Day, 1996 Fall D.A.R.E. Graduation. Ms. Hart explained that no
action is necessary - this case is for informational purposes only.

Case #5: Schedule 1997 Community Events

Finance Officer Hart presented the Finance Committee with a list of 1997 community events and
proposed dates.

Motion by Councilmember Beahen and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman to recommend
Council approve the schedule for the 1997 Community Events.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Councilmembers Beahen, Zimmerman, Beyer and
Peterson. Voting No: None.

Finance Committee/May 28, 1996
