CC CASE

AWARD BID FOR BITUMINOUS OVERLAY AND ADDITIONAL TRAIL IN
EMERALD POND PARK
By: Dean Kapler, Public Works Director/Mark Boos, Parks and Utilities Supervisor

Background:

The trail at Emerald Pond Park is in need of an overlay. Staff also recommends adding aprox 300
feet of trail around the pergola/fountain. This work was bid at the same time as the street
maintenance projects to optimize cost savings. The low bid is Bauerly Companies at $4610.25 for
the overlay and $2302.35 for the additional trail work.

The Parks Commission met on June 26, 2003 and authorized the additional trail and 50% of the
overlay cost to come from Sunfish Lake Park District trail fees. Staff is recommending the
remainder be charged to the Emerald Pond Park Budget which is funded from the Park
Improvement Fund. The Finance Officer agrees with the distribution of the costs.

Staff Recommendation:

Council authorizes awarding Bauerly Companies the bid for the overlay project and additional
trail segment at Emerald Pond Park with funding as described above.

Council Action:

Motion to accept Staff's recommendation.

Reviewed By:
City Administrator
Finance Director
Parks/Utilities Supervisor
Public Works Director

CC: 07/08/2003
