He stated Ramsey had a special trail system and this design
would give emphasis to the trailhead. Community Development Intern Chmielewski stated that the
design intent and ideas were covered in the meeting packet.

Chairperson Cook stated that it looked good. Community Development Intern Chmielewski
explained it would take a few years to become established and once that happens it would be very
nice.

Chairperson Cook stated they could probably get away with burning every 3 to 5 years. Chairperson
Cook stated he has similar plantings and it is maintenance free. Community Development Intern
Chmielewski explained some additional seeding will be necessary for disturbed areas.

Chairperson Cook noted the need to inform the public of these natural plantingS. Community
Development Intern Chmielewski explained the City would like to hear feedback. Chairperson Cook
commented on the Rivers Bend area and stated that there were 176 different varieties of forbs, as they
are a beautiful part of the natural plantings. Commissioner Johns stated wildflowers may be more
accepted by the public.

Chairperson Cook suggested an event such as "Prairie Days", to educate and make the public aware
of these natural plantings.

Commissioner Johns stated this seems to be the emerging trend. Chairperson Cook explained these
plantings were nice because they were low maintenance.

Community Development Intem Chmielewski stated hackberdes would also be planted. Chairperson
Cook stated the sumac will be nice for the fall. Commissioner Johns stated it looks great.

Chairperson Cook asked about the timeline for paving. Community Development Intern explained
the pavers were very busy this time of year but it would be done soon.

Chairperson Cook stated the trail was being used frequently and many people like it. He expressed
appreciation for all of the information and the work that was put into it.

Park and Recreation Commission/July 11, 1996
Page 2 of 3
