Mr. Jankowski noted some of what the policies deal with, e.g., watch for children signs, yield
signs, speed humps, deaf children signs, etc. He stated he would like to discuss each of the issues
with the Road and Bridge Committee in an on-going manner.

Councilmember Zimmerman pointed out that sometimes residents have a request you cannot truly
satisfy but if you put up a sign they feel you are helping them.

Mr. Jankowski reported that he has never posted a "Children at Play" sign. He has been able to
talk people out of these signs for 13 years.

Councilmember Zimmerman thought that the speed bumps on Dysprosium proved Mr. Jankowski
wrong.

Mr. lankowski suggested that was a different situation. When you build a street that wide, people
feel they can go faster. He suggested perhaps doing a temporary placement and conducting studies
to determine if it's right or wrong. The City of Minneapolis has developed a policy for installing
speed bumps and he offered to get a copy of that policy. Speed humps are expensive and at some
point, sometimes neighborhoods request they be moved. In Minneapolis, they are assessed when
they are put in and when they are removed.

Councilmember Zimmerman, with regard to "Children at Play" signs etc., suggested that
sometimes the parents are willing to pay for the signs themselves.

Councilmember Beyer commented that if it's that simple, what's the problem in giving them the
sign.

Mr. Schroeder responded that we could end up with a proliferation of signs.

Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman to table any action
on this case and that more discussion will take place at subsequent Road and Bridge meetings.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Councilmembers Beyer and Zimmerman. Voting No: None.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to adjourn the
meeting.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Councilmembers Zimmerman and Beyer. Voting No: None.

The regular meeting of the Road and Bridge Committee adjourned at 6:07 p.m.

(.~ecording Secretary

i~ .:'/'11 / / i?
