From The Director: If you ore like me, this third winter season without snow Is really getting me down. Cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and snow shoeing activities have been curtailed. We've had to cancel many snow related programs and special events. Perhaps our luck will change and snow will be on the way for February and March. Speaking of locking ahead, cur Department Management Team recently completed a planning session for department wide goals for 2003. This is an exercise we go through each year, as we work towards further Implementing our 2020 Vision, Park and Recreation System Plan. 2003 will be a challenging time for our department as we struggle with looming budget deficits while trying to provide our core services to the best of our ability. Yet out of these challenges, we are resolute to continue our efforts to advance the cause of parks and recreation in ~cka Count. The following Is a brief summary of a few of the goals that we have set for 2003. * Develop a donor / gift / volunteer policy procedure. · Complete the development of Ham Lake County, In conjunction with the oily of Ham Lake, and turn the park over to the city in the fall. *. Complete the new facilities reservation system for on.fine use by our park customers. · Complete the new Bunker Beach family aquatic center and host a public grand opening in June. · Paint the clubhouse, rain shelters, and bridges at Chomonix Golf Course. · Implement the Conservation Partners Grant Projects at Bunker Hills Regional Park and at the Sandhlll Crane Natural A~'ea. · Complete a Comprehensive Maintenance Management Plan for the park system. · Cr~e new brochures far Bunker Beach and Chomonix Golf Course. o Participate In the Great Minnesota Golf Show at the Metrodome. · Promote and adve~lse to increase volunteer base at the Wargo Nature Center. · At the BanfllI-Locke Center for the Arts, identify and e~tabllsh contacts with area education organizations and institutions for collaborative programing. performance pavilion facilities and trails at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park. -"-'\ -' '~""'"'v'7~?' Pursue available grant opportunities for conservation projects at Mississippi West, Coon Rapids Dam, and Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Parks. · Review maintenance unit, maintenance processes, programs, organizational flow chaff and staff placement to continue improvement of maintenance services. · Maintain partnerships with libraries, National Sports Center, and Bunker Park Stables, and other community groups to improve activities guide information and reduce cost of production. · Better utilize the facility at Coon Rapids Dam by expanding recreational programing there. · Identify potential local business donors, as "corporate sponsors" at BanfilI-Locke Center for the Arts. : · Deliver enough snow for a good cross country ski season in 2003-04. This is just a quick snapshot of the many goals being pursued by the Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department in 2003. Our efforts over the next 12 months will be tempered by potentially huge cuts in non-county dollars. We will do our best to weather the storm, while providing qualily services to our customers.
