Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos asked Ms. Birksit if they use the existing path system now and if
the survey Will expand to other areas around the development.

Ms. Birksit stated she has debated extending the survey. She stated she does use the path and
enjoys it but would prefer the trees over another trail in the area.

1V[r. Steve Thurler, 1477 Potassium Street stated the path in their backyard would not be wanted
because they have a sidewalk in the front yard and there is a lot of debris left in their yard. He
stated he would hope everyone would take their time with this project.

1V[r. Birksit stated her understanding is they would need to make the private road a public road in
the development and so they would need to make the road wider and she wondered if this was
correct.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated he was not sure because there could conceivably be a
reduction in the road and still be a public street.

Comraissioner LaMere asked if they were looking at a potential park by Sunfish Lake.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated he thought that the Park Commission might recommend a
park development there for the benefit of the larger neighborhood.

CommissiOner Shryock asked what they expected Hunters Park to provide for the area.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated at this time there is not much there and they will need to
look at that. He added this an excellent point because of the parks proximity to the plat in
question.

Councilmember Cook stated he was speaking as a citizen and as a reminder, the land was platted
for townhomes a few years ago, and because of the citizen's objection, the Council did not
approve this. He stated they have a developer who is trying to work with the City and is being
cooperative. He stated there would have been more green space with the earlier proposal and the
citizens did not want that. Some times they have to make decisions that are contrary to what the
citizens want. He stated they do not have an active tree ordinance. He stated the developers are
actually providing better standards than are required.

Councilmember Cook stated a new thing that is being seen is higher density developments in the
City and there is talk about an ordinance requiring recreation and park land for developments.
He stated the developer is suggesting this and it is not required at this time.

Mr. Kangus stated he appreciated the comments from Mr. Cook. He stated this is a PUD project
which allows four units per acre.

Commissioner Shryock stated there is a wide range of families living in townhomes and she feels
a consensus recommendation is they wait until they see the new drawings before making a
decision on this. She stated another concern she is not seeing is in the single family area,

Park and Recreation Commission/January 9, 2003
Page 6 of 9
