Councilmember Pearson stated that he would be interested in attending meetings related to the <br />Town Center. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he supported trying to schedule more joint meetings because <br />the City was facing decisions regarding the Comprehensive Plan with regard to green space and <br />he would like to "get ahead" of development and felt that decisions should be made in <br />conjunction with the Park and Recreation Commission. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns stated that perhaps there didn't need to be more formal joint meetings b ut <br />Councilmembers could be invited to attend future Park and Recreation meetings to provide their <br />input. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that she is willing to attend more meetings as she is very interested <br />in parks. <br /> <br />Commissioner Shyrock stated that she is also willing to attend City Council work sessions to <br />provide input from a Park and Recreation perspective. <br /> <br />Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCMR) Grant <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos explained the history of the protected land along the Trott Brook <br />Trail. H e stated t hht t here w as a presentation m adc i n Ju ne 2 002 t o t he L CMR for funds t o <br />construct a trail system. This trail system, when complete, would provide one circuitous loop of <br />trailways throughout the City. <br /> <br />Commissioner Ostrum le12 the meeting at 7:45 p.m. <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that the LCMR supported the project because it would link <br />together a 108-mile trail route through this part of the State. He stated that they authorized 2 <br />million dollars which now has been reduced to $500,000 that can be used for land acquisition. <br /> <br />The Commission discussed ways of acquiring land by purchase and/or by land dedication from <br />property owners. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson questioned whether the trails would be paved. <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that they would be paved. <br /> <br />The Commission discussed ways to earmark incoming parkland dedication funds for the Trott <br />Brook area. <br /> <br />The Commission discussed the possibility of receiving additional funding from the State for this <br />project. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission/June 12, 2003 <br /> Page 8 of 9 <br /> <br /> <br />
