Discussion ensued relating to Quad Cities Cable TV going out to the businesses also to
conduct "camera tours".

Council authorized the development of the Ramsey Business Newsletter.

Case //2: Ramsey Business Expo and Business Appreciation Day Recap

Chairperson Wagner reported that, based upon the success of the Business Expo and the
Business Appreciation Day, the Commission is able to present a check to the Council in the
amount of $713. This amount reflects the funds remaining from the Business Expo
donation and from the Business Appreciation Day. The breakdown is as follows: $494.49
from the Expo and $218.51 from the Business Appreciation Day.

Mayor Hardin inquired if the EDC was satisfied with the results of combining the Business
Expo with the Lions Community Picnic.

Mr. Gromberg replied that it worked well combining it as there was a better turnout.

Chairperson Wagner pointed out that the EDC had a lot of trouble getting people to sign up
to participate in the Expo. There was a lot of people at the picnic but not a lot of business
displays.

Commissioner Kent suggested that the perception of a "tent" was a concern to people until
they saw how large it was. He felt that there would be more participation next year.

Commissioner Ullen proposed incorporating into next year's brochures, some of the
photographs taken at this year's event.

Case #3: Items for Discussion

A)
B)
C)

Future Issues to be Addressed by the EDC
Open House for Businesses at City Hall and Quarterly Luncheon
Marketing Plan for City Property

Chairperson Wagner asked Council for direction on futura issues to be addressed by the
EDC. He asked "where do you see us. We are not always sure we are doing what the City
Council wants us to do. We would like to see more direction as far as what it is you want
us to be doing".

Councilmember Peterson suggested that one of the things Council has talked about is that
the Fire Department would like to become more knowledgeable about businesses,
especially in dealing with hazardous materials. A good relationship between businesses
and the Fire Department should be' encouraged as that could result in better service.

Mr. Schroeder explained that, up to this point, the Fire Department has been getting into
businesses as they have the opportunity. With new businesses, when the certificate of
occupancy is given, notice of that goes to the Fire Chief and the Police Chief.

Councilmember Beyer added that the Fire Department is also looking at some software to
have all the information in their computer such as the fadlity layout, who the key holders
are, etc.

Consensus was that this issue needs to be addressed. It was suggested that this would be a
great item in the newsletter.

Economic Development Commission/City Council/November 2, 1995
Page 3 of 5
