also help us use our cam corders, Xap Shot camera, and audio equipment to help
collect, data from t.he Area. Rod Vacek, our Science Curriculum Consultant, has
worked with us throughout the project to help in the integration of the Area and
our curriculum areas.
This fall we will be creating several garden plots so that classrooms will
have an opportunity to plant and grow seeds outside this coming Spring. We hope
th~s will expand our thinking on experimentation in a natural environment. We will
be seeking the assistance from our Ramsey Master Gardeners at this time.
Tr~e Ramsey Environmental Expo will be held at Ramsey School this Spring, too.
We hope that many 4tl~ and 5t.h grade Science Fair projects will focus on the
environment, These projects will be displayed at the EXPO. Watch for more
~nformation about this event.

What will happen when the new school is built?
The KKE Architects have reviewed the Environmental Learning Area and Nature
Trail. They will work to preserve its present qualities to the best of their abilities.
A sewer line will be coming from the Wetland Area. The specific point has not been
identified. Mark Boos, Tom Redman (District #11 Building and Grounds), Dick Nybeck
(District #11 Operations and Facilities), and the Core Committee have discussed
the importance of trying to protect our natural resources. The new school will
probably sit on the present Ramsey School playground area.
T~e Ramsey ELA also has the help of Peggy Sand, landscape arcl~itect, as part
of the Twin City Tree Trust's commitment to help us develop the Ramsey School
Site. We will be setting plans for a 3 So $ year development of the area which will
~nclude tree planting, gardens, natural habitats and resources, etc.. Hopefully, with
the mutual interest and concern, we will create a wonderful learning environment
for the whole community.

Current Committees and Chairpersons of the Ramsey ELA:

Environmental Expo: Paul Couture for the City of Ramsey
Jeanne Forrest for Ramsey School
Wetland Area Development: Paul RoChe
Fund-Raising: Nannette Sorenson
Garden Plots: Pam Jacobson
Signs: Klm LeTourneau
Site Plan Development: Janette Monear ( and Peggy Sands)
Trail Installation: Patty Hill
Prairie Development: Rod Kuehn
