RAMSEY TOWNSHIP COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, 1973 <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey's earliest efforts at preparing a <br />Comprehensive Plan for the community and creating development <br />policies, goals, and standards was with the Ramsey Township <br />Comprehensive Plan. This plan was adopted by the former Ramsey <br />Township in July, 1973. The significance of this plan is that it <br />set the stage for the development of future plans, specifically <br />for the City of Ramsey's 1980 Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Identi£i~d goals and objectives of the 1~73 Comprehensive Plan <br /> <br />A planned and orderly environment should be emphasized. <br />Land developers should be encourage to try new design <br />concepts including planned unit development and cluster <br />housing. <br /> <br />Land use activities should be separated but remain <br />complementary. Industrial uses should be close to <br />transportation facilities including both the rail and <br />highways. They should also maintain reasonable access to <br />commercial service and residential areas. <br /> <br />Commercial strip development should be discouraged. <br />Consideration should be given to deeper frontages with on- <br />site parking. Frontage roads should be encouraged and both <br />sign and curb-cut controls are recommended. <br /> <br />Land zoned for one purpose should generally exclude other <br />types of uses. Industrial land should exclude residential <br />and commercial uses. <br /> <br />Environmental assets should be protected and enhanced. <br />Natural drainage courses or streams should serve as the <br />framework for a greenbelt system to provide linking <br />recreational opportunities within every residential area. <br /> <br />Neighborhood and community shopping areas should be related <br />in size and type to the market area they serve. <br /> <br />Multiple family housing should be encouraged to locate close <br />to business areas, major streets and particularly public <br />transit. <br /> <br />Working Paper #1 <br />City of Ramsey Comprehensive <br />Land Use Element <br /> <br />Plan Update <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br /> <br />
