computer equipment. The capital outlay shown is the actual computer system. We should
be able to utilize most of the equipment we have.

Councilmember Peterson inquired if Kathy Johnson would be the first network person.

Ms. Hart replied she probably would be. The system should be up and running late 1995
or early 1996.

Relating to general government buildings - the budget for cleaning supplies was increased.

With regard to vehicles - Ms. Hart stated that gasoline, lubes, tires, brakes, etc., was
increased slightly.

Relating to telephones - Ms. Hart explained that the pay phone has been removed and one
has been placed on the counter. Chief Auspos has suggested that when City Hall is locked
up, we should have a direct 911 access phone outside or maybe a regular pay phone
outside as 911 is a free call anyway.

Ms. Hart explained that the training for employees included miscellaneous training for the
Maintenance Worker such as a boiler license. Other equipment rental includes floor
stripper, towels, etc.

Ms. McAloney touched on the Newsletter. We budget for 11 issues; January and February
issues can be easily combined for the same number of pages. We did have to increase the
budgeted amount. She explained that Staff gets the newsletter camera-ready and then it is
sent out to be printed.

Chief Auspos stated that the City's Charter only requires six issues of the Newsletter and
inquired why it can't be left as that. The public can get information by calling City Hail.

Discussion ensued relating to cutting back on the number of issues of the Newsletter that
should be done.

Mr. Schroeder stated he would prefer keeping the Newsletter at eight pages in length and
reduce it to six issues.

Ms. Hart stated that for 1994, we budgeted for nine issues.

Ms. McAloney suggested Staff could cut down on additional articles and stick only to City
business.

Councilmember Beyer stated she gets a copy of the City of Fridley's newsletter and it
comes out every three months.

Ms. McAloney stated that a quarterly newsletter could be done at Ramsey also except for
the spring events.

Councilmember Beyer stated we could get some reimbursement from the County. She felt
that the newsletter could be done quarterly with a special mailing for spring events.

Councilmember Peterson stated that the Newsletter is one of the only ways to reach the
residents.

Chief Auspos felt it could be done in six issues.

Finance/Budget Committee/August 8, 1994
