Mr. Schroeder noted that the amount of $1,400 is quite a significant increase for small tools <br />and inquired what Mr. Boos is planning to purchase. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos stated he is planning to purchase a large chain saw as all the saws they currently <br />have are too small. The professional service represents the alarm monitoring. The phones <br />are at the warming houses, etc. He thought maybe he'd be able to get the school to pick up <br />some of the phone cost for the warming house at the elementary fink. The $420 is a <br />request for a cellular phone reimbursement. He stated he is amending his request to $300, <br />even though he exceeds that amount, he is willing to pick that up. He stated that part of the <br />strategy for holding a line on staff positions is to look at technology to provide efficiencies. <br />If we look toward more contracted services, the mobility of the phone pays for itself. <br /> <br />Police Chief Auspos stated he would think Mr. Boos would want the City to supply him <br />with a portable cellular phone. <br /> <br />Mr. BOOs stated it increases his availability dramatically. He added that he does not have <br />another business and that it does not work out by where he lives. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder asked Mr. Mevissen if he had every considered getting a cellular phone. <br /> <br />Mr. Mcvissen stated it probably would be nice to have one as he is sometimes hard to get a <br />hold of. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos stated the way it is now, Administrative Services has to take messages for them. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hardin stated he is not opposed to reimbursement but maybe it would be <br />more cost-effective for thc City to purchase it. <br /> <br />Ms. Hart stated that Chief Auspos has a stringent policy - no personal phones calls at all. <br />Someone would have to monitor Mr. Boos' calls. She added that she is not questioning <br />Mr. Boos' integrity. She suggested that maybe Mr. Schroeder should be reimbursed for <br />his cellular phone also and that there are two fire fighters who have acquired cellular <br />phones on their own. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hardin asked Ms. Hart to check into the cost to add two more numbers on <br />the cellular contract right now. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos continued with training. He stated we need tree inspector cer~cation and that it <br />doesn't always have to be the Environmental Specialist. The money requested for <br />playground design is for safety. Legal notices are for the public hearing process and for <br />the updated comprehensive plan. Printing is for the comp plan. We may not be able to do <br />in-house coverage of the photos, etc. New security lights have been added, water is about <br />the same. Gas - he felt they did a good job of keeping track of heat and keeping it low. <br />Refuse disposal is the same. Building and structures - Mr. Boos stated that a couple of the <br />lights at Central Park need attention. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos was directed to check the clock on the lights at Cen~al Park. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos continued with machinery and equipment repair. The irrigation system has very <br />expensive maintenance. Everything that can go wrong seems to go wrong.
