Mr. Auspos commented that the new officer will "eat up" a big half of the uniform and mm
out gear allowance.

Ms. Hart stated that we can pay for the 1995 officer equipment out of 1994's budget.

Ms. McAloney inquired about a new list for MPRS.

Mr. Auspos stated that is generally in September.

Ms. MeAloney stated she is concerned we are obligated to get it from the 1994 list.

Ms. Hart stated that we could put the hiring off a bit.

Ms. McAloney stated that it needs to be recommended by the Personnel Committee in
September. We will have to add a meeting.

Public Works Supervisor Mevissen stated that 3311 Street Maintenance - rental is based on
past experience.

Mr. Schroeder asked Mr. Mevissen if he was concerned about the decrease to which Mr.
Mevissen replied no.

Mr. Mevissen felt that taking the track out of the budget was a big mistake. Other than
that, he stated he was okay with the cuts.

Assistant Fire Chief Kapler stated that the only two issues he has is the hydrant and the gas
detector. He stated he feels from the safety aspect the gas detector is an absolute must - it's
strictly a safety issue.

Mr. Schroeder stated we have a heat detector - is there a preference.

Mr. Kapler stated that the lost dollars would be the biggest benefit from the heat detector.
He felt if he had to make a choice, people should come fa'st.

Mr. Auspos stated that one "BOOM" could take out seven or eight houses and he felt the
gas detector should be put back in the budget.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor asked about the heat detector.

Mr. Kapler stated that it eliminates the frequency of going back out to a fn'e scene. For
example, they went back to the garage door place four times. The heat detector would have
cut that at least in half.

Mr. Auspos stated that it would also be used when lightening strikes, etc.

Mr. Kapler stated that they have tom apart walls to see if there is anything still going on.
Sometimes they have found nothing and sometimes charred wood. The need is there for
both detectors, but his fn'st choice would be the gas detector.

Mr. Gromberg suggested maybe upping assessing a bit.

Mr. $chroeder stated that what he's heard thus far is $300 for the cellular phone bill,
cutting Vehicle #607 is a mistake, the gas detector is a must, bump up 2211 to some
degree, and there is a desire for additional storm drainage.

Staff Budget Meeting/August 22, 1994
