This is because all but three of the <br />existing Seven vehicles are high mileage. Trading down of S-1 and S-2 at this _time witl <br />avoid tiffs proposed purchase in that the squads will not exceed 100,000 miles this summer <br />and thus are'good staff cars. Mr. Schroeder summarized the pros and cons~ of purchasing <br />two more vehicles. He added that the cost of two squads is $25,990, $12,995 for <br />replacement fund reimbursement and $4,000 for equipment installation. This totals <br />$42,985~,:or $9,007 beyond the replacement fund available funds. If Council authorizes <br />the purchase, the source of the revenue shortage must be identified. An alternative would <br />be replacement of one squad at this time. Sufficient revenues exist for this opti0.n by <br />selling Off two (or three) administrative vehicles. <br /> <br />Motion, by Mayor Gilbertson and seconded by Councilmember Hardin to recommend <br />Council. authorize the purchase of one more squad car for the Police Department <br /> <br />Further discussion: Councilmember Beyer felt that the Police Department should be <br />authorized to purchase both vehicles requested. <br /> <br />Motion carried.
