COMMISSION BUSINESS: M58 M64 Case #1: REVIEW FLINTWOOD TERRACE PARK In keeping wifla the Commission's desire to perform on-site inspections of City parks, the August meeting began with a tour of Flintwood Terrace Park beginning at 142nd Avenue N.W.and along the park trail to the western half of the park where the meeting was conducted. Flintwood Terrace Park is scheduled to have a tot lot and shelter constructed in 1996. The tot lot is to be pla¢~d near the 142nd Avenue entrance with a "sandlot" ballfield to the northwest. Discussion en~ued as to the ultimate goal for the park. Lighting will be placed along the trail at approximately 700 foot intervals as per the #116 trail corridor. Mr. Schroeder indicated that the City will ulfi~tely acquire more property for the park to enhance the existing picnic area with shelters and gl'ills. Case g2: i Approve 1999 Capital Improvement Projection Mr. Schroeder and Mr. Boos explained the Parks Capital Improvements Projections as they relate to time tables and dollar amounts. Discussion ensued regarding adoption of the 1999 CIP as is, or to amend it to allow for development of parks like Flintwood Terrace Park earlier than the proposed 1996 date. Commissioner Gookin indicated that if the opportunity to acquire additional property for Flintwood Terrace Park arose, the acquisition should be acted upon. Mr. Boos indicated that he is working with the City Engineering Department to prepare park plans for each area. This will further help the Commission in preparing budgets. Commissioner Swokowski motioned to approve the CIP as amended. Consensus approved by Chairperson Hefland and Commissioner Gookin. COMMISSION INPUT Mr. Schroed~ invited Mr. Skinner and Mr. Warner to informally explain to the Commissioners why they wet0 interested in becoming a Commissioner on the Park and Recreation Commission. The applican~rin turn questioned Mr. $chroeder, Mr. Boos and the Commissioners on the role the Commission PlaYs in the community and future plans of the Commission.
