The residents in
attendance noted that Emerald Pond Park's playground was very likely the fmest within Ramsey.
The CommisSion discussed improvements completed this year and the improvements scheduled to
be completed before winter.

Case 02: Interview Applicants for Park and Recreation Commission Vacancy.

Chairperson Hetland briefed those in attendance on the role of the Park and Recreation
Commission a~nd noted that all four applicants for the vacancy were present.

Chairperson Hetland proceeded to interview Mr. Steve Warner by inquiring about his availability.

Mr. Warner stated that he is relatively new to Ramsey, but takes pride in his community. He has a
background it} construction, is a machinist and is interested in structuring the City of Ramsey,
especially its parks. He also stated that he has previous community experience with the Jaycees
and that he has an eight year old daughter.

Applicant Kerry Dvorak explained that he has previous experience with maintenance in a park
system in Illinois and would like to take part in shaping Ramsey's park system.

Applicant Michael Skinner stated his primary reason for wanting to be on the Park and Recreation
Commission siems from growing up in the City of Ramsey. The only park available to him, at that
time, was the Ramsey Lions Park on Nowthen Boulevard N.W. And that park had limited or no
access to it. He felt that he would be able to offer the perspective of children regarding parks
because of being a student teacher. Mr. Skinner added that he would be encouraged to focus the
attention to disability sensitive activities on trails, such as the improvements to Emerald Pond Park.

Applicant Jilt Johns stated that availability to serve the Commission is not a problem and feels she
would have more than enough time to dedicate to the Commission regardless of the meeting
schedule. Ms~ Johns mentioned that among her priorities as a Commissioner, she would address
all segments of Ramscy's population and maintain a cohesive responsible park development
schedule. She added that one of the values derived from being a Commissioner is noticing the
visible progress being made.

Commissioner Gookin asked the applicants to volunteer their thoughts with regard to their
priorities as it related to trails versus park areas.

Mr. Dvorak stated that, from a resident's perspective, we would certainly have to support trails as
evidenced by ;the overwhelming use of the City's new trail in Juniper Woods. He added that the
trail is used fx0m dawn to dusk when the children are out of school.

Park and Recreation Commission/September 8, 1993
Page 2 of 5
