The Olympic
style competition provides an opportunity for
people of all ages to compete in 30 different
evonts, roflocting tho diverse abilities of
Minnosota athlelos.
The wide variety of athletic evonts offered for
competition range from team sports like soccer,
basoball, volleyball and wrestling, to individual
sports liko golf, karate, powerlifting and fencing.
The games also include divisions for special and
disablod alhloles.
'11 lakos many rosourcos to host an event that
welcomes so many athletes,' said Anoka County
Commissionor Margaret Langfeld, who believes
the evonts provide an opportunity to showcase the
Countys many athletic venues. 'Anoka County's
8,000 acres of park and recreation space, along
with the many recroational facilities offered by the
sponsor citios and communities, make this area
the perfect place to host the games.
'Coordinating efforts for an event of this size
is a Tremendous job,' continued Langfeld. 'The
Star of the North Games have received generous
support from many communities who will serve as
host for the evonts - communitios such as Anoka,
Blaine, Coon Rapids, Centerville, Lexington, Lino
Lakos, Spring Lake Park, Circle Pines, Fridley,
Mounds Viow and Now Brighton.'
'However, the reason for the recent County
Board action was to urgo residents and
corporations to add their support through
vofunlooring limo, donating monetarily or making
in -kind contributions,' said Langleld.
Because tho competition is open to all ages
and a wide variety of sports, expectations for a
record crowd aro high.' Commissioner Langfeld
commended further, in 1991 we had over 10,000
athletes competo and that number continues to
riso evory yoar. We hope that our support of the
games will promote hoallh and fitness as well as
bring our communities doser together through the
spirit el competition.'
Rogistration for ovonts is taking place now.
Furthor information regarding the amateur athletic
competition, volunteering or contributions is
availablo by calling 785-5678.
RESIDENT'S SUGGESTIONS
ON ROAD NAMES REQUESTED
At an April 1, 1993, meeting of the Road and Bridge Committee, one topic of discussion
was how to alleviate confusion associated with the names of two collector streets serving
the City. Sunfish Lake Drive N.W. is a new east/west collector street which will eventually
run from T.H. N47, south of 149th Avenue N.W. to County Road N116 near the Altron
Company. Portions of this new street have boon constructed in the now Wood Pond Hills
and Sunny Ponds subdivisions located south of City Hall along County Road N5. Obviously
the name Sunfish Lake Drive N.W. is very similar to Sunfish Lake Boulevard N.W. (C.R.
N57) which is also a major thoroughfare in the City. (See bold linos on the map below to
show the streets for renaming.)
A socond thoroughfare considorod for renaming is 153rd/1551h Avenues. Because of the
importanco of this roadway, it would bo less confusing for it to have a single descriptive name.
The Road and Bridge Committee bolt it would be worthwhile to obtain citizen input in
considoring appropriate namos for thoso two roadways. Possible namos could be rolalod to
Ramsoy's historic past, or to geographic or man-made teaturos.
If you have a suggestion, please stop by, call us at 427-1410 or return the form below to
Ramsoy Municipal Building, 15153 Nowthon Blvd N.W. Ramsey, MN 55303 by 5 p.m.
Friday, Juno 25, 1993. Tho Road and Bridgo Committee will bo roviowing these
suggoslions and making a recommendation to the City Council in July.
If now road namos are soloctod, the City will need to hold a public hearing and pass an
ordinance dosignaling tho chango. Properties affoctod by an addross chango will be
notified by letter.
RESIDENT'S SUGGESTIONS ON ROAD NAMES REQUESTED
The City of Ramsey Road and Bridge Committee is requesting citizen input in
considering appropriate names for the two colloctor streets of Sunfish Lake Drive N.W. and
153rd/155th Avenues.
Suggested Name: AIo l2 TH Fdee n/Z,
Your Name:
Address:
d -pan(tirm R-1 i/
Suggestions are due to Ramsey City Hall no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 25, 1993.
Tho Road and Bridgo Committee will bo roviowing these suggoslions and making a
recommendation to the City Council in July.
N
1(1
r.
