The Olympic
style competition provides an opportunity for
people of all ages to compete in 30 different
evonls, reflecting the diverse abilities of
Minnesota athletes.
Tho wide variety of athletic events offered for
competition range from team sports like soccer,
baseball, volloyball and wrestling, to individual
sports like golf, karate, powerlifting and fencing.
The games also include divisions for special and
disabled alhloles.
'It takos many rosourcos to host an ovont that
welcomes so many athletes,' said Anoka County
Commissionor Margarot Langfeld, who believes
the events provide an opportunity to showcase the
County's many athletic venues. 'Anoka County's
8,000 acros of park and recreation space, along
with the many rocroalional facilities ollered by the
sponsor cities and communities, make this area
the perfect place to host the games.
' Coordinating efforts for an event of this size
is a tremendous job,' continued Langfeld. 'The
Star of the North Gamos have received generous
support from many communities who will serve as
hos! for the ovonts - communitios such as Anoka,
Blaine, Coon Rapids, Centerville, Lexington, Lino
Lakos, Spring Lako Park, Circle Pines, Fridley,
Mounds Viow and Now Brighton.'
' However, tho roason for the rocent County
Board action was to urgo rosidonts and
corporations to add their support through
voluntooring lime, donating monetarily or making
in -kind contributions," said Langfeld.
Bocauso tho competition is open 10 all ages
and a wide variety of sports, expectations tor a
record crowd aro high.' Commissioner Langfeld
commondod further, 'In 1991 we had over 10,000
athletes compete and that number continues to
riso evory year. We hope that our support of the
garnos will promote hoallh and fitness as well as
bring our communitios closer together through the
spirit of competition.'
Registration for evonts is taking place now.
Furthor information rogarding tho amateur athletic
compolition, voluntooring or contributions is
available by calling 785-5678,
rc„,
N.
RESIDENT'S SUGGESTIONS
ON ROAD NAMES REQUESTED
At an April 1, 1993, mooting of the Road and Bridge Committee, one topic of discussion
was how to alleviate confusion associated with the names of two collector streets serving
the City. Sunfish Lake Drive N.W. is a new east/west collector street which will eventually
run from T.H. #47, south of 149th Avenue N.W. to County Road #116 near the Altron
Company. Portions of this new street have boon constructed in the now Wood Pond Hills
and Sunny Ponds subdivisions located south of City Hall along County Road 05. Obviously
the name Sunfish Lake Drive N.W. is very similar to Sunfish Lake Boulevard N.W. (C.R.
#57) which is also a major thoroughfare in the City. (See bold linos on the map below to
show tho stroots for renaming.)
A socond thoroughfare considered for renaming is 153rd/155th Avenuos. Bocauso of the
importanco of this roadway, it would bo less confusing for it to have a single descriptive name.
Tho Road and Bridge Committee felt it would be worthwhile to obtain citizen input in
considoring appropriate namos for those two roadways. Possible namos could be related to
Ramsoy's historic past, or to geographic or man-made foaturos.
If you have a suggestion, please stop by, call us at 427-1410 or return the form below to
Ramsoy Municipal Building, 15153 Nowthon Blvd N.W. Ramsoy, MN 55303 by 5 p.m.
Friday, Juno 25, 1993. The Road and Bridge Committeo will be roviowing those
suggostions and making a recommondation to the City Council in July.
If now road namos are solectod, the City will need to hold a public hearing and pass an
ordinanco dosignating tho change. Proportios affoctod by an address change will be
nolifiod by loltor.
RESIDENT'S SUGGESTIONS ON ROAD NAMES REQUESTED
The City of Ramsey Road and Bridge Committee is requesting citizen input in
considering appropriate names for the two collector streets of Sunfish Lake Drive N.W. and
153rd/155th Avenues.
Suggested Name: A fe rt' FIKK DR .
Your Name: Xi'. ct 1I Y )t( Y4 Address: / & f .-411, , 1' 4/60 LL/
Suggestions are due to Ramsey City Hall no later lhan 5:00 p.m. riday, June 25, 1993.
Tho Road and Bridge Committee will bo roviowing these suggostions and making a
rocom, nendalion to the City Council in July.
CITY
•
'
i ` ;
- (I
tit r',i .. i' ' "III 111I ifL
) 1.1 11-?P,1 '
'rll 7l jj" . , ." I I
ulLt- I
UAr OF -- \. '1
OF RAMSEY '
L,.LIIIL.
I010.
•
r!mtl,„!11= Ipl I i`l
