MEMORANDUM

DATE:

TO:

CC:

FROM:

SUBJECT:

March 22, 1993

Mike Auspos, Police Chief

Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator
Mayor and Councilmembers
Public Hearing Meeting Minutes, March 23, 1993

Jo Thieling, Recording Secretary
Snowmobiling

On Monday, March 22, 1993, I received a call from Blake Hayes, 6105 - 173rd Avenue
N.W., Ramsey. He was calling about a sign posted at Triple G's regarding Snowmobiling
in Ramscy. He wanted more information and I informed him that City Council was
holding a public hearing because of the complaints about snowmobiling on private
property. He will not be able to attend the meeting on the 23rd but had Some suggestions.
I inforrhed him his comments could be made a part of the public hearing record. His
comments are as follows:

He stated he is a snowmobiler and that he moved here from Champlin. Champlin has
something called a "volunteer ski patrol" on weekends, which is citizens volunteering their
time to watch for trespassing snowmobilers. However, he didn't say what they did when
they caught someone doing something wrong.

He also asked if there was a way a trail could be linked from the City of Ramsey out to the
main snowmobile trail on County Road g22.

He feels it is mostly Junior and Senior High "kyds" who are driving on people's property
and asked if there was some way these "kyds" could be informed in school, by someone,
(a volunteer, or a City employee or Police Officer) about the proper places to go
snowmobiling within the City.

/jmt
