Case #1 REQUEST FOR SQUAD CAR PURCHASE By: Sandra Ashley Helling, Finance Officer Backgroufi, d: The 1992 G~net, al Fund Adopted Budget included the following capital outlay item for the Police Protection Sgb-~tmction: Replace ~ne squad car $15,000 The City of ~a~sey Was quoted the following for a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria Police Car: Cro~n ¥ictoria with block heater, noise supp{r, es~ion, flashing trunk light $13,045 The above [ hc~ is per the Hennepin County Bid that has been extended to City of Ramsey orders placed by J~nuaijy 31, 1992 In addition to the above, the following will be required: Salel Tagk~ (applicable for unmarked) $ 848 Sirel Hel?d for Squad Car 84 $ .350 , Total Expenditure $14,243 Delivery is ~xpq'Cted in May of this year. This new squad will be used as an unmarked or as the detective ve~iclg. Squad Car//5 (1985 Ford Crown Victoria Unmarked) will then be available for sale or reassten~ent to the staff fleet. Attached: A copy of t~e quote from Superior Ford. ObservatiOns: As a result Of staff direction at the Council meeting, January 14, 1992, this emergency Budget Committee/ne~ing was called. Our Police Chief has placed a verbal order for this squad with Superior Fo~rd, apd if this purchase is not ratified by Council, a cancelation order must be placed as soon as posaibl~. At our next irega, lar Bud,get Committee meeting, Staff will present a draft policy to confirm our understanding of Council s direction for initiating a funded capital outlay item purchase. Recommen~dafion: It is Staff's recommendation this purchase be ratified by the Budget Committee and City Council.
