City Vehicle #705 (1986 Ford I~TDiCrown Victoria) is assigned to the Fire Department. Dave Griffin, Fire Chief, has advised~l~el uses this vehicle to drive back and forth from his home to his place of employment tand: for City business related travel (seminars, meetings, etc.). Our Fire Chief responds (fr~m ~his office or home) directly to fire call locations in this vehicle and further advises the ivel~icle is not used outside the City limits except for City business related travel. I contacted peter Tritz, League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust, and asked if there are any coverag~e I~mitations or liability issues that might come into play in authorizing an employee us'._e o~ a City vehicle for travel to/from work, etc. Basically, Mr. Tritz stated the coverage foll~)ws'the vehicle. As long as the City has authorized the employee's personal use, the City's c(~ver~ge is in effect. However, since this question has come up several times recently, he lwillihave one of the researchers review their files for guidelines, claims and/or general info.tmaiion. They will get back to me if this review results in suggestions or recommendation~S.
