November XX, 2007

Dear Property Owner,

Recently the Public Works Committee has held discussions regarding the promotion of
paved driveways within the City. The primary benefits would include the reduction of
sediment migrating onto paved City streets and thereby causing safety issues for bicycle
and roller bladders, and the elimination of sediment into storm sewers, culverts and
ditches. In addition paved driveways would improve neighborhood appearance which
would enhance property values.

Your property has been identified as one having one or more unpaved driveways .The
City has contacted a local blacktopping company to estimate approximate costs for
paving various sizes ofdriveways which are summarized in the tables below:

Length
10 ft
15 ft
20 ft
25 ft
30 ft

Driveway Paving Cost
Width
50 ft 75ft

1 00 ft

$ 1,625 $ 2,438 $ 3,250
$ 2,438 $ 3,656 $ 4,875
$ 3,250 $ 4,875 $ 6,500
$ 4,063 $ 6,094 $ 8,125.
$ 4,875 $ 7,313 $ 9,750

Enclosed is a survey to help determine what efforts the City might undertake to
encourage the paving of more driveways in our residential neighborhoods. Please return
the survey in the enclosed stamped envelope by December XX, 1997. If you have
questions I may be reached at 763-433-9826 or by email atsiankowski@ci.ramsey.mn.us.
Your assistance is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Steven Jankowski, PE
City Engineer

33
