City of Ramsey
MASTER HOUSING PLAN
DRAFT

........---..--.--.............................................................--.........

PART TWO--HOUSING DEMAND:

Age:

The age structure of the population of Ramsey and surrounding areas will have an important impact
on housing type, style, and price points that current and future residents will demand. It is important
to examine the age distribution of current Ramsey residents because they will also affect demand
for certain types of housing as their age and family composition changes. Figure 4 below shows the
age of Ramsey residents, aggregated to examine "life cycle" categories. This chart shows that all
;age groups have gained population from 1990 to 2000. The categories of children, middle-aged
adults, and baby boomers have shown the largest increases. The "Seniors" and "Young Adults"
categories increased only incrementally. The chart indicates that the largest categories had the
highest percentage gains. The "Baby Boomer" category more than doubled in population from 1990
to 2000. This trend will continue as middle aged adults enter into the 45 to 64 age category over the
next 20 years.

Figure 4: Ramsey Residents within Life Cycles

Age, Aggregated

7,000

1,000

6,000

5,000

4,000

3,000

2,000

o

Children 0 to 17

Young Adults 18 to 24 Middle Adults 25 to 44 Baby Boomers 45-64

Seniors

City of Ramsey Master Housing Plan

(draft #1) November 2007
