• <br />PC ' <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFICERS APPOINTMENTS FOR 2008 <br />By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief <br />• <br />Background: <br />The staffing structure of the Fire Department includes paid-on-call Officers positions that <br />are appointed by the Fire Chief. Each position carries a term of two years. The terms are <br />staggered to allow for both opportunity of advancement and stability within the ranks <br />from year to year. <br />Each position has a unique job description along with an established list of "off the <br />scene" responsibilities. Both will be available for review if requested. <br />The process for appointment includes several steps: <br />1) Assistant Chiefs are interviewed individually by the Fire Chief <br />2) The balance. of the officer positions includes an interview with the Fire Chief <br />and Assistant Chiefs. <br />3) The Fire Chief brings a recommendation to the City Administrator for <br />approval. <br />4) The recommendation is brought before the City Council for ratification. <br />The Fire Chief met with the City Administrator to discus the appointment list. The City <br />Administrator approves of the recommendation. <br />Staff Recommendation: <br />The Fire Chief recommends the appointment of the following firefighters to the Officer <br />position listed.
