Case # 1 Business Park Monument Signage By: Sean M. Sullivan, Economic Development Coordinator Background: Staff and the EDA have discussed monument signs and their use within the City. Recently, the City was contacted by CMDC regarding the construction of monument signage at key entry points to the City's industrial parks and the financing of that project. Staff was directed to get some cost estimates for the construction of these signs and to bring it back for further discussion. The consensus among the group was that the construction and strategic placement of monument signs in the business parks would be a good way to finish the parks off and to help identify Ramsey. There was also consensus that some or all of the signs should be illuminated. Staff would like to present four sign types for review at the December Meeting. Observations: The costs associated with the specific sign types will vary. The approximate cost for a two pillar sign type that was recommended in 2005 would be $12,600 per sign. This sign type appears to be the most expensive according to a ball-park estimate by a general contractor. The price does not include bringing electricity to the sign but a local energy provider has expressed interest in that aspect. It has also been conveyed to Staff that the electrical cost for these signs is minimal. Staff is looking for direction to get solid bids for a certain sign type and to present a finance package for the construction, maintenance and implementation of the signs.
