I I I INTRODUCE ORDINANCE AMENDING WATER AND UTILITIES SECTION OF THE CITY CODE By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer and Sandra Helling, Finance Officer CASE Backgrounds The City Cour~cil.~as expressed a desire to examine whether the existing water and sewer rates are adequate. As~t part of Staff's review of this issue it was noted that both sewer and water rates are currently limited t4 being set by ordinance. The primary purpose of the ordinance amendment is to allow water arid S~wer rates to be adjusted periodically by resolution. However, in addition to this goal, the' Ci~Yi Engineer, the Building Official and the Parks/Utilities Coordinator reviewed the ordinance wil n th~ intent of increasing its clarity and having it conform more closely to actual proceduresl bo [ng~llowed. As a result, the revised ordinance provides separate sections for each utility, chan~g ~s ~o~rtain procedures for more efficient operation of the City's utility system and describes th~ harmer and procedures required for connecting to City water and sewer utilities. A draft of the O~inahce has been sent to the City Attorney for codification and review. Based upon his review, st/i~g~§ted revisions are being incorporated into a draft which will be available at the City Counml ,~eet!ng.
