Community News Update from the Ramsey Lions Club We would like to thank everyone who attended the annual community picnic held this past summer in the new shelter at Central Parl(. We hope that a fun time was had by all, despite being cut short by the rain once again. We would also like to thank all of the volunteers that helped to make this event a success. We hope that next year will bring more sunshine during this annual event, which tal(es place the first Saturday of June. The Lions also participate in several other community events throughout the year which allows us to give charitable contributions to the citizens of Ramsey. Some of the events you will see us at, are; park- ing at the Game Fair at Central Park, the Nowthen Threshing Show, and Ramsey Happy Days. We would lil(e to thanl( all of the members of our community who show their support at these events. Some of the organi- zations that your contributions have helped are; the Seniors Club trip to No Parking on Public Streets Parking is not allowed on any public street between the hours of 2:00 - 6:00 am year round. Vehicles in violation will be cited and may be towed. Como Park, the 55-Alive program, scholarships, and food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Upcoming events include Easter food basl(ets in April and the Nowthen Historical Power Associa- tion Tractor Pull and Swap Meet on May 10, at the site of the Nowthen Threshing show. The Lions meet the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Wells Event Center located behind the Outpost on Hwy lOin Ramsey. ~ Hot Reads for Cold Nights at the Library Once again, the Anoka County Library will cel- ebrate the joys of reading during the month of February. "Hot Reads for Cold Nights" is an annual program spon- sored by the library to remind adults of the pleasures of reading, espe- cially during the cold, dark months of winter. All library users aged 1 7 and older are encouraged to participate. Reading requirements are minimal and prizes are awarded at the end of the program. To join in the fun, look for the "Hot Reads" display at the Rum River Library, or any Anoka County Library, beginning February 1, 2008. Free Dollars Into Sense Classes Anoka County Extension Staff and Dollar Works Volunteers will present Free Dollars Into Sense classes on January 15 and February 19 at 10:00 am at the Bunker Hills Activities Center (550 Bunl(er Lake Blvd, Andover) and again at 7:00 pm at the N orthtown Library (711 County Rd lONE, Blaine). To register, call University of Minnesota Extension, Anoka County, at 763-755-1280 at least three days prior to the class you wish to attend.
