<br />Community News <br /> <br />Update from the <br />Ramsey Lions Club <br /> <br /> <br />We would <br />like to thank <br />everyone who <br />attended the annual community picnic <br />held this past summer in the new <br />shelter at Central Parl(. We hope that <br />a fun time was had by all, despite <br />being cut short by the rain once again. <br />We would also like to thank all of the <br />volunteers that helped to make this <br />event a success. We hope that next <br />year will bring more sunshine during <br />this annual event, which tal(es place <br />the first Saturday of June. <br />The Lions also participate <br />in several other community events <br />throughout the year which allows us <br />to give charitable contributions to <br />the citizens of Ramsey. Some of the <br />events you will see us at, are; park- <br />ing at the Game Fair at Central Park, <br />the Nowthen Threshing Show, and <br />Ramsey Happy Days. We would lil(e <br />to thanl( all of the members of our <br />community who show their support <br />at these events. Some of the organi- <br />zations that your contributions have <br />helped are; the Seniors Club trip to <br /> <br />No Parking on <br />Public Streets <br /> <br />Parking is not allowed <br />on any public street between the <br />hours of 2:00 - 6:00 am year <br />round. Vehicles in violation will <br />be cited and may be towed. <br /> <br />Como Park, the 55-Alive program, <br />scholarships, and food baskets for <br />Thanksgiving and Christmas. <br />Upcoming events include <br />Easter food basl(ets in April and the <br />Nowthen Historical Power Associa- <br />tion Tractor Pull and Swap Meet on <br />May 10, at the site of the Nowthen <br />Threshing show. The Lions <br />meet the first and third Wednesday of <br />each month at the Wells Event Center <br />located behind the Outpost on Hwy <br />lOin Ramsey. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Hot Reads <br />for Cold Nights <br />at the Library <br /> <br />Once again, <br />the Anoka County <br />Library will cel- <br />ebrate the joys of <br />reading during the <br />month of February. <br />"Hot Reads for Cold <br />Nights" is an annual program spon- <br />sored by the library to remind adults <br />of the pleasures of reading, espe- <br />cially during the cold, dark months of <br />winter. All library users aged 1 7 and <br />older are encouraged to participate. <br />Reading requirements are minimal <br />and prizes are awarded at the end of <br />the program. To join in the fun, look <br />for the "Hot Reads" display at the <br />Rum River Library, or any Anoka <br />County Library, beginning February <br />1, 2008. <br />For more information about <br />"Hot Reads for Cold Nights" talk to <br />the staff at Rum River Library, call <br />763-576-4695, or visit the library's <br />website at www.anoka.lib.mn.us. <br /> <br /> <br />Free Dollars <br />Into Sense Classes <br /> <br />Anoka County Extension <br />Staff and Dollar Works Volunteers <br />will present Free Dollars Into Sense <br />classes on January 15 and February <br />19 at 10:00 am at the Bunker Hills <br />Activities Center (550 Bunl(er Lake <br />Blvd, Andover) and again at 7:00 pm <br />at the N orthtown Library (711 County <br /> <br />Rd lONE, Blaine). To register, call <br />University of Minnesota Extension, <br />Anoka County, at 763-755-1280 at <br />least three days prior to the class you <br />wish to attend.
