A Plan for Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Management <br /> <br />. .j <br /> <br />A very important piece to the vitality of the Ramsey community is the protection, <br />preservation and restoration of the native vegetation that covers the community. The <br />following goals, policies and implementation strategies are intended to act as a framework <br />for environmental protection. <br /> <br />Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Management Goals <br />The following are the general goals for the management of natural resources and <br />environmental protection for the City: <br /> <br />1. To conserve and improve unique and essential natural resources including wetlands, <br />lakes, rivers, ditches and woodlands. <br /> <br />2. To protect, preserve and enhance the supply of clean water and clean air for the <br />current and future generations of Ramsey citizens and businesses. <br /> <br />3. To restore and re-establish native vegetation <br /> <br />4. To protect people and property from natural hazard. <br /> <br /> <br />5. To establish balance between protection of and the urban use of natural resources. <br /> <br />6. To reduce the waste-stream and create a sustainable environment by recycling, <br />reducing and reusing. <br /> <br />Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Management Policies <br />It is the policy of the City to: <br /> <br />1. Protect the shoreline ~eas ofIakes and streams as public resources. <br /> <br />2. Maintain natural shorelines along rivers, lakes, wetlands and ponds and employ <br />measures that minimize the adverse impacts of storm water runoff on surface water <br />bodies. . <br /> <br />3. Mitigate wetland losses in accordance with the Wetlands Conservation Act of 1990. <br /> <br />4. Limit the alteration of wetland areas unless absolutely necessitated for the purpose of <br />economic development. <br /> <br />5. Work with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and <br />the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in the protection and regulation of <br />wetlands, floodplains and natural watercourses to handle storm water runoff and slow <br />the process of surface water infiltration. <br /> <br />6. Keep local ordinances and controls up to date and consistent with DNR standards for <br />shoreland management, critical area management, wild and scenic rivers management <br />and floodplain management. <br /> <br />2001 Ramsey Comprehensive Plan <br />Amended February 26, 2002 <br /> <br />Page XIII-5 <br />
