CASE # 5

PRELIMINARY PLANNING FOR 2008 ENVIRONMENTAL EXPO
By: Chris Anderson, Environmental Coordinator

Background:

Planning for the 2008 Environmental Expo will be getting started in earnest now that we've
entered the new year. In broad terms, the following components need to be considered for
organizing and planning the 2008 Environmental Expo:
· Exhibitors-would include identifying companies, agencies, organizations, etc that would
be appropriate to invite to the expo event. Staff will facilitate the invitations and
registration info.
· Tree Sale-would include identifying a nursery or nurseries to invite to participate in the
tree sale and exploring possible ways to both reduce the cost of trees for residents and
enhance public interest in purchasing trees. Staffwill facilitate the invitation(s).
· Classes/Speakers-would include identifying relevant environmental topics and potential
speakers/presenters.
· Activities-would include identifying activities, games, etc that will attract and entertain
persons of all ages. Examples may include a petting zoo, face painting, moon walk,
puppet show etc.
· Arbor Day/Tree Planting Ceremony-would include organizing a tree planting ceremony
(including location) and identifying a potential speaker to speak about the benefits of
planting trees.
· Advertising-would include creating awareness for the expo event through flyers, the
Ramsey Resident newsletter, spots on QCTV, the website etc.

Staff is in discussion with Prairie Restorations Inc regarding a potential topic and speaker for one
of the 'classes', which likely will focus on landscaping with native plants and the associated
benefits. A second topic and speaker/presenter is still being sought.

EPB Action

No action is necessary as this is for informational purposes only. However, Staff is interested in
discussing the EPB's involvement in the planning of the expo event.

EPB: 1/7/08
