CASE # 2

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY BOARD BOOTH AT ENVIRONMENTAL EXPO
By: Chris Anderson, Environmental Coordinator

Background:

At the January meeting, Staff had updated the Board with regard to the 2008 Environmental
Expo planning. During that discussion, it was suggested that the February meeting should
include a case regarding the EPB' s booth for the expo event and possibly assigning tasks to start
gathering info for the event.

Observations:

There are a multitude of topics that the Board could consider for their booth. Examples of
potential topics include oak wilt, invasive species, compo sting, and/or waste reduction, among
others. It should be noted that Staff has placed a purchase order for a 72" by 72" display board
that the Board could utilize for their booth.

Planning for the expo continues to move forward. Staff has confirmed that Prairie Restorations
Inc and Anoka Conservation District will be leading discussions/presentations on the importance
and benefits of native plants and rain gardens, respectively. Each organization has also
confirmed that they will provide a display and/or information for the exhibit area as well.
Additionally, Staff has confirmed that Connexus Energy will participate in the event, with a
focus on energy conservation, as will ACE Solid Waste, with a focus on recycling.

Invitations have also been extended to the Raptor Center, Herpetological Society, Geological
Society, and Wargo Nature Center. Furthermore, Staff has inquired with the LRRWMO about
having a watershed model available for the event as well.

EPB Action

The Board should be prepared to discuss potential topics and possible assignments for its booth
at the Environmental Expo.

EPB: 2/4/08
