<br />City Administrator Ulrich stated the alternates would be Julie Horn and Matt Tewes. He stated <br />that he will add the alternates onto the final list so everyone is aware who they are. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he wanted to make sure people knew that the people chosen for <br />this group are people that have spent a lot oftime being involved in meetings in the past. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ulrich stated that for the OST representatives, staff is recommending that <br />Merlin and Ron Hunt be added as alternates. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen reminded the Council that there needs to be another Councilmember <br />appointed to serve on this group. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Look, seconded by Councilmember Strommen, to appoint <br />Councilmember Dehen to serve on the Ramsey3 Working Group.. <br /> <br />Motion carried. V oting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Look, Strommen, Dehen, Elvig, <br />and Olson. Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmember Jeffrey. <br /> <br />Case #7: <br /> <br />Consider Reduction of Ramsey Star Express Fare to $2.75 Per Ride <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that the City's current fare for direct service to <br />downtown Minneapolis is $4.50 per ride. She noted that the current ridership numbers were <br />included in the Council packet. She stated that staffhas.done research on fares throughout the 7 <br />County Metro Area and found that only Elk River and Ramsey have the fare set this high. She <br />reviewed the financial impact if the City reduced the rates to $2.75 effective March 1,2008. She <br />noted that staff had made assumptions that, with the reduced fare, the ridership would increase. <br />She stated that staff supports reducing the fare. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he also supports reducing the fare. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen stated that she also supports reducing the fare and remembers <br />struggling with the fare of $4.50 when the service began. She stated that she feels that $2.75 is <br />reasonable and will help increase the ridership. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that the numbers show that the City is clearly subsidizing the <br />ridership and asked if this was because the City wants more people to ride buses so the City can <br />look better for a rail station location. <br /> <br />City Council /February 26, 2008 <br />Page 9 of 13 <br />
