ORDINANCE #08-06

CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA
AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 5 WHICH 15
KNOWN AS MUNICIPAL REGULATIONS.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER
5, SECTION 5.07 TITLED "FIREARMS" OF
THE CITY CODE OF
RAMSEY, MINNESOTA
The City of Ramsey ordains:
SECTION 1. AUTHORITY
This ordinance is adopted pursuant
to and under the authority of the City
Charter of the City of Ramsey.
SECTION 2. SUMMARY
The following is the official summary
of Ordinarice #08-06 which has been
approved by the City Council of the City
of Ramsey as clearly informing the pub-
lic of the intent and effect of the Ordi-
nance.
The current City Code allows the
Police Chief to issue permits to carry
concealed weapons. State law no longer
allows cities to issue this type of permit.
Therefore, the current language in Sub-
Section ?07.08 "License to Carry Weap-
ons" has been deleted in its entirety.
In 2006, the City Council directed
the Police Chief to review and issue per-
mits for firearms hunting contrary to City
Code. Prior to that time, citizens would
bring their request directly to Council for
a special permit. The City Code cur-
rently does not give authority to the
Police Chief to issue permits, however,
with the adoption of this ordinance, the
City Code language would be amended
to grant the Police Chief this authority.
SubSection 5.07.08 has been re-titled
"Permit to Hunt".
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE
The effective date of this Ordinance
is thirty (30) days after its passage and
publication, subject to City Charter Sec-
tion 5.07.
Adopted by the Ramsey City Council
the 12th day of February, 2008.
Thomas G.
