<br />9.12.09 <br /> <br />E-l and E-2 Employment Type Districts <br /> <br />Subdivision 1. Wall, Canopy or Marquee Sign. Total sign area may not <br />exceed fifteen (15) percent of the front building fayade. Sign height shall not exceed the <br />tope of the parapet wall or, if no parapet wall, sign height shall not exceed the height of <br />the eaves. A wall, canopy or marquee sign may be located on the outermost wall of any <br />principal building but shall not project more than sixteen (16) inches from the wall to <br />which the sign is to be affixed. Where a principal building is devoted to two (2) or more <br />permitted uses, the operator of each such use may install a wall sign upon hislher <br />proportionate share of the building wall to which the sign is to be affixed. The maximum <br />gross surface area of each such wall sign shall be determined by calculating the <br />proportionate share of the area of the building wall, including doors and windows to <br />which the sign is to be affixed and applying such proportion to the total permitted wall <br />sign aggregate gross surface area for the building. The gross surface area of a wall sign <br />may be increased by ten percent (10%) if such wall sign: <br /> <br />a. Consists only of individual, outlined alphabetic, numeric, and/or <br />symbolic characters without background except provided by the <br />building surface to which the sign is to be affixed; and <br /> <br />b. Any illumination, if any, is achieved through shielded illumination, <br />shielded silhouette lighting, or shielded spot lighting but not any <br />lighting where the light source is visible or exposed on the face or <br />sides of the characters. <br /> <br />Subd. 2. Ground Signs. There shall not be more than one (1) <br />ground sign for each parcel. The gross surface area of a ground sign shall not exceed one <br />hundred (100) square feet for each exposed face nor exceed an aggregate gross surface <br />area of two hundred (200) square feet. <br /> <br />Subd. 3. <br /> <br />Directional Signs <br /> <br />a. Directional or instructional signs are permitted in accordance with <br />S9.12.03 subd. 9. <br /> <br />b. Parking lot directional signs designating parking area entrances and <br />exits are limited to one (1) sign for each entrance and/or exit and <br />shall not exceed four (4) square feet for each exposed face. Parking <br />lot directional signs shall not project higher than five (5) feet in <br />height, as measured from the established grade of the parking area to <br />which such signs are accessory. <br /> <br />c. Parking lot instructional signs designating the conditions of use or <br />identification of parking areas shall not exceed eight (8) square feet <br />and shall not project higher than ten (10) feet in height for wall signs <br />and seven (7) feet in height for ground signs, as measured from the <br /> <br />Ordinance #08-07 <br />Page 12 of 19 <br />
