Zoning Bulletin

Historic District Jurisdiction-Private elementary
school challenges jurisdiction of town's historic district
commission over parking area

Citation: Felician Sisters of St. Francis of Connecticut, Inc. v.
Historic Dist. Com'n of Town of Enfield, 284 Conn. 838, 2008
WL 33544 (2008)

The Felician Sisters of St. Francis of Connecticut, Inc. and the
EnEeld Montessori School, Inc. (collectively, the "school") owned
property in the town's historic district. A private elementary school
was operated on the property. The school's driveway and parking
area totaled 19,325 square feet. Of that, 12,413 square feet was
blacktop and 6,912 square feet was gravel. In order to ease parking
and traffic problems on the property, the school proposed building
a new blacktop driveway. The school further proposed that after
the new parking area was constructed, they would replace the ex-
isting gravel parking area with grass and newly planted trees. This
plan would result in all of the parking being' out of view of the
main street. It also would result in 16,546 square feet of the prop-
erty being devoted to parking and vehicular traffic.

"

THOIVISON
*
\NEST

'\
1

610 Opperman Drive.
