<br />3 <br /> <br />Executive Summary <br />Council Staff Retreat February 1,2,2008 <br /> <br />City Of Ramsey Council/Staff Retreat <br />Executive Summary: Vision, Goals, Priorities, Action Items <br />Observations and Conclusions Made By The Participants <br /> <br />OUR VISION (Draft) <br />The City of Ramsey will be a safe and beautiful place where you can truly live, work and play. We <br />will be recognized as a well-planned community with a. vibrant sustaining commercial, industrial <br />and residential tax base that will be used to build and maintain our thriving neighborhoods, <br />excellent schools and economic development around these cornerstones: <br />1. Our natural resources, vibrant parks and open spaces, <br />2. M ultimodal forms of transportation including rail, <br />3. A "town center" replete with retail, entertainment, commerce, <br />4. Housing for all stages of life and income levels, <br />S. High level of quality City servic~s. <br />For these reasons the City of Ramsey will be considered a unique destination where people will be <br />drawn to live, work, shop and recreate. <br /> <br />2008 FIVE YEAR GOALS <br />(not ranked) <br /> <br />Transportation <br />Goal: No.1: Transportation: develop plans for an upgraded and integrated transportation and <br />transit system that includes a Northstar rail stop. <br /> <br />Transportation Focus for 2008-2009: <br />· Amend the Comprehensive Plan to include Multi -Modal Transportation. <br />· Planning should include circulator bus (will be necessary for a viable Community <br />Center) <br />· East/west connections, adopt arterial road plan. <br />· Securing a Northstar stop in Ramsey. <br /> <br />Development <br />Goal No.2: Ease tax burden for our citizens with new commercial/business development that <br />necessitates including the creation of a viable Ramsey Town Center and development that <br />provides significant employment opportunities for current and future residents. <br /> <br />Development Focus for 2008- 2009: <br />. Big box - Work toward securing an agreement for development as a catalyst for the <br />development of Town Center. <br />. Target Store - Working toward securing an agreement. <br />· Theater - Identify possibilities. <br />. Re-establish/ new retail development along Hwy 10. <br />. Establish a communications and marketing staff position <br />. Consider a municipal activity center with water, fitness and hotel (see public facilities <br />goal) <br />· Explore identifying a large employer to town.
