City of Ramsey
Council/Stoff Retreat
February 1,2, 200B

VISION: MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS
Council and Staff Exercise
Council and staff broke into small groups (each made up of both council and staff members)
to conduct an exercise to select and prioritize the top four elements that would be essential in
the City of Ramsey's vision statement. Council and staff, via the pre-retreat survey, provided
these elements.

Group 1:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Group 2:
1.
2.
3.
Group 3:
1.
2.
3.

Multimodal transportation
Housing - diverse, safe
Natural resources/parks/open space
Healthy/sustaining commercial, industrial residential, tax base

Well maintained amenities
Safe/secure community
Thriving neighborhoods, industry and commercial business

A mix of housing, employment, shopping & entertainment
Commercial development to ease tax burden or robust economic tax base
A healthy tax base, vibrant parks, open space; walkable community; well-
planned community for near term as well as long-term needs

DRAFT of VISION STATEMENT:
Using the above identified "vision elements" and information from the pre-retreat survey, the
facilitator drafted the following Vision Statement for the City of Ramsey. The next step will be
for the staff to rework this statement (or create another reworded one using the above
identified elements) and present to Council for adoption.

The City of Ramsey will be a safe and beautiful place where you can truly live, work and
play. We will be recognized as a well-planned community with a vibrant sustaining
commercial, industrial and residential tax base that will be used to build and
maintain our thriving neighborhoods, excellent schools and economic development
around these cornerstones:
1) Our natural resources, vibrant parks and open spaces,
2) M ultimodal forms of transportation including rail,
3) A "town center" replete with retail, entertainment, commerce,
4) Housing for all stages of life and income levels,
5) High level of quality City services.
For these reasons the City of Ramsey will be considered a unique destination where
people will be drawn to live, work, shop and recreate.

3

-33-
