He <br />advised that they are also going to look into the more kid friendly activities, such as the petting <br />zoo and face painting. He stated that he did purchase a display board and the EPB would be able <br />to use it for their booth at the expo. <br /> <br />Board Member Bentz questioned if anything is going to be done with oak wilt. <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson replied that would be one option for the EPB to have at <br />their booth. He explained that the conservation district may have information on it, but he was <br />unsureifhe would be able to get someone from the D~ to come to the event. <br /> <br />Board Member Bentz explained that on. the south side of his street there were huge oaks that <br />have either been removed or marked for removal due to oak wilt. He stated that he does not <br />know what the homeowners have had to pay to remove those trees, but wondered if there was <br />anywhere to get assistance from. <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson replied that he was able to secure grant monies from the <br />State last year, but was directed not to go forward with it. He stated that he believes the oak wilt <br />program serves an important role for the community. He stated that it would be beneficial to get <br />Council input on whether to seek grant funds to help offset a portion of the cost of oak wilt <br />management for homeowners bearing in mind that to be eligible for grant monies, the program <br />would have to be mandatory. <br /> <br />Board Member Bentz stated that one of his neighbors has no interest in replanting oaks. <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson replied that many people share that sentiment, because <br />they have been stuck with a large bill to remove and/or treat trees with oak wilt. <br /> <br />Acting Chairperson Max stated that he talked with someone from the DNR, who stated that <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson wrote the best proposal in the state for the grant money <br />and they were disappointed that he did not pursue it further. <br /> <br />Board Member Bentz stated that he knew someone who kept bees, and thought thatthe types of <br />plants that are friendly for bees and butterflies would be a good idea for the expo. <br /> <br />Board Member Stodola stated that bees all over the world are dying in huge numbers right now, <br />numbers that they have never seen before. He added that bees are essential for flowers and <br />plants. <br /> <br />Acting Chairperson Max stated that he might be able to get his hands on a display involving trees <br />and the effect of landscaping, such as water run-off: He explained that it is a hands-on display <br />that was used at the Science Museum. <br /> <br />Acting Chairperson Max inquired about the tree sale. <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson explained that a local business is going to co-sponsor the <br />event and buy any leftover trees to be sold at their nursery. He stated that they would preorder <br />the trees from the grower and the cutoff date would be the first Friday in April. He stated that <br />they would be bare root trees.
