City Of Ramsey <br />Council Staff Retreat /Planning Session <br />February 1, 2, 2008 <br />City of Ramsey <br />Council /Staff Retreat <br />February 1, 2, 2008 <br />Those who attended the retreat were Mayor Thornas Game, Councilmember's John Dehen, <br />David Jeffrey, Matt Look, Mary Jo Olson, and Sarah Strommen: City Administrator Kurt Ulrich, <br />and Department Heads Heidi A. Nelson, Diana Lund, Brian Olson, Sylvia Frolik, Dean Kapler, <br />and James Way. Facilitator Barbara Strandell. <br />PURPOSE /ASPIRATIONS <br />Re- affirm or modify strategic direction of the City. <br />2. Have open policy discussions to enhance understandings among individuals regarding <br />their strategic direction, including a strengths and weakness assessment. <br />3. Review mission and vision for the city. <br />4. Establish priorities (what is most important) for next 1 -3 years. <br />5. Refresh understanding of roles and responsibilities for council, staff and mayor. <br />6. Identify ways to improve communication within council and between council and <br />staff. <br />LEGACY OF COUNCILMEMBERS <br />At the beginning of the retreat, the Mayor and each councilmember shared their thoughts on <br />the legacy they, personally, would like to leave the City of Ramsey once his or her term is up. <br />Included could also be what their "agenda" is, what they campaigned on, would like to <br />achieve. <br />John: Make business and people come here; families to come on "town center" <br />transportation. <br />Matt: I was a leader who was fair and equitable; "He listened and was one of us "; vision of city: <br />less taxes, less government; more trust with constituents. <br />Sarah S.: Restructured how we engage with citizens, how we sought their input; that we <br />prioritize what we focus on That we create a vision for the City in the next two years. <br />Mary Jo: The city is left a better place; that Ramsey Town Center is a thriving place; there is <br />resurgence of residential development; not mediocre. <br />David: We made steps toward a common vision; I had (have) integrity: good staff,, <br />organizational values and met goals. <br />Tom: was trustworthy; communication with people in city (part of it): future growth /housing; <br />transportation; communication with citizens. <br />-195- <br />
