City of Ramsey <br />Council /Staff Retreat <br />February 1, 2, 2008 <br />2007 GOALS <br />Council provided direction regarding the following long -term goals established in 2007: <br />Goal No. 6: Create a Technology Plan to provide access to a state -of -art technology <br />network throughout the city: <br />• Consensus was reached that Goal No. 6 should not be a 2008 goal for staff to devote <br />resources to <br />Goal No. 7: Create a Communication Plan for external and internal City communications. <br />Consensus was to direct staff to review what other cities are doing in relation to <br />communication. The information will be presented to Council for consideration of hiring <br />a consultant to review and make a recommendation on the City's current <br />communication procedures. <br />TOP PRIORITIES: 1- 2 Years (2008, 2009) <br />These priorities are the things that both council and staff will focus on in the next couple of . <br />years to meet their stated goals. Council and staff ranked the priorities. <br />1. Rail Station - Secure a rail stop for the City of Ramsey: <br />2. Community Center - Get a consensus for developing a center as one catalyst for the <br />development of the Town Center. <br />3. Big box - Work toward securing an agreement for development as a catalyst for the <br />development of Town Center. <br />4. Target Store - Working toward securing an agreement. <br />5. Theater - Identify possibilities. <br />6. Mixed Housing update comprehensive plan to incorporate mixed use housing, and <br />work toward development efforts. <br />BIGGEST OBSTACLES AND STRATEGIES TO OVERCOME THEM: <br />There was a discussion and review of the obstacles /barriers submitted by Council and Staff <br />prior to the retreat. The group ranked the obstacles that represented the most important <br />challenges. Then, Council and staff split into small groups to discuss how to overcome the top <br />obstacles.
