Voting No: None. <br /> <br /> SlN .SS <br /> <br />Case #1:~ Prresentation by Steve Kerr regarding Community Education <br /> :: P~rograms, Services, Participation and Enrollment <br /> <br />Mr. Steve ~err,[Manager of District gl 1 Community Education Program, was present to provide <br />informatic/j!., abbut the programs offered by Community Education and also to answer any <br />questions t~e Cd, remission/Council may have with regard to the program and/or funding of it. He <br />stated there,Were some funding changes in the last year with probably the most significant one <br />being the c~.. tting of adult programs. <br /> <br />Hamet L~soni Commumty Education Coordinator for Ramsey, was present to ~nform the <br />Commissi~r!/C~uncil about the classes being offered and how they have been received by the <br />residents. !She stated she has really experienced a sense of community in Ramsey and is <br />impressed~_with all the volunteers available and willing to help. She stated the Community <br />Education Prog~ am is developing a pre-school program and the classes are filling fast. The athletic <br />classes fill~o" uic dy and there is also a rise in the enrollment of the craft classes. There has been <br />requests f~.~a gJ :ls basketball team. Ms. Larson added that she would like to get a student council <br />organized ~o hel ~ determine what activities the youth want. She also mentioned the idea of offering <br />science an~!geo~aphy classes which would explore education in a fun way. She stated they are <br />considerinl~ late~r start times for some classes so that children with working parents can also attend. <br />She was i~pre~sed with the students from Anoka High School helping out with some of the <br />basketball ~lass~s and stated they have expressed a desire to help out with the basketball clinic. <br />She stated~she ~'has a love for the success of children" and shared a photograph album full of <br />pictures of~hil '~d~'en participating in the different classes offered by the Program. <br /> <br />Mr. Kerr s~atedlthe following is a list of what the Community Education Program expects of it's <br />coordinatOt:s: 1) Arrange community access to school facilities and communicate school policies <br />and proce~ures~ 2) Provide services and programs for the audiences; 3) Be involved in <br />communit3Wid~ issues; and 4) Be involved in what's happening in the school itself. <br /> <br />ChairpersOn He~tland inquired how community education relates to the Park and Recreation <br />CommissiOn an~ how the Commission could be of service to the program. <br />Mr. Kerr s~atedlthis presentation is more for an "awareness issue" as the City is paying for these <br />services. ~e st~ited the Commission could assist by helping to determine the needs and wants of <br />the comm~,mty.[ He stated the program ~s always open to suggesuons and that they would would <br />provide wliat they could with regard to the requests and suggestions. <br /> <br />MORE C~ITI~EN INPUT <br />Stanhope ~.erra~ residents - They again expressed concern for the safety of their children because <br />of no par~lo platy in. They mentioned there is approximately 18 acres deemed as City park land at <br />Roanoke ~tt'eetfN.W. and 154th Lane N.W.
