He thought that was a
very good idea.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson summarized that as discussed last month, there was a
suggestion that the March stipend be pooled to purchase trees that would be donated to the Parks
& Recreation Commission to plant in one, or multiple parks. He stated that. Staff suggested that
this might be an opportunity to host an Arbor Day event. He stated that rather than donating the
trees to the Parks and Recreation Commission, this Board could do a ceremonial tree planting.
He advised that the May 5th meeting would concede with Arbor Month and would also be close
to Arbor Day. He suggested that the May meeting be held at Riverdale Park. He advised that
irrigation is going to be installed in the park and thought it would be great to get some trees in
there also. He stated that he checked with the Finance department and advised the Board what to
do if they wanted to donate their stipend. He advised that for tax purposes there would be no
impact. He questioned if this was something that the Board was still interested in.

Board Member Max advised that he would like to offer as many month's stipend as would be
needed to purchase seven trees, one for each Board Member.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that they could work with a nursery or utilize the
presale trees for the purchase of the trees. He advised that they would get more "bang for their
buck" if they chose bare root stock. He advised that if all seven members were interested in
donating their stipend there would be a total of $180 for the purchase. He advised that the
presale trees range in price from $17 to $35, with the spring snow crab apple being $17. He
explained that if the Board chooses to utilize the presale trees they would be limited to the five
species that were chosen for that event.

Environmental Policy Board / March 3, 2008
Page 2 of8
