CASE #3

SUNFISH LAKE PARK - DISCUSS PLANNING CONCEPTS
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor

Background:

The purpose of this case is to begin prioritizing the amenities available for the proposed park at
Sunfish Lake, as well as discuss the scope of development for the park. As the Commission will
recall, households and businesses within 3000' feet of the future park space were sent a letter
inviting them to be a part of the planning process. The attached memorandum summarizes the
public comment received at the Commission's March meeting. (The meeting minutes provide
more detail.) Only two responses were received outside of that initial process - both bye-mail.
One indicated gratitude for moving ahead with the park development, and the other, lengthier
correspondence suggested focusing the available funds on parking improvements at Central Park.

Obse~ations:

The City consultants for this project, Brauer and Associates, will have first draft conceptual
designs at the meeting for the Commission to respond to. The Commission's input should not
necessarily be limited to layout or amenities depicted at this time however. At this stage of
concept plan development, it is intended that options for park design be explored - with a
narrowing of preferred design occurring as the Commission and City Council evaluate
possibilities with resident input over the course of April and May 2008.

City Council is scheduled to provide additional direction and input on this proposed
neighborhood park at their April 15th, 2008 work session. Park and Recreation Commission
members are encouraged to attend this evening meeting as well.

Commission Action:

Provide detailed recommendations for refining conceptual plans for the proposed Sunfish Lake
Park.

P&R: 04/10/08
