Commissioner Barr stated that she thought that they should have parking for safety.

Schoenbrauer stated that it would be reasonable to have access to the park for elderly. He stated
that whatever parking they have has to accommodate the minimum but should not deter from the
natural setting.

Amberg stated that when they come back to the Commission they will have some concepts based
on what they heard tonight and will show different ideas to see what they like and do not like.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated that they had no off-street parking at Riverdale Park but they
ended up having to add it in because people have to stop on the road to unload coolers and such.

A female resident stated that the emphasis at this park should be on wildlife education and that
they could teach about the natural succession of lakes and ponds.

Several persons agreed stated that was a great idea.

Schoenbrauer stated that he picked up on the need to have a connection to the school. He
advised that at the next meeting they would bring more information on what is in the surrounding
parks so that they do not overlap in this park. He questioned if they wanted to have structured
areas for picnics.

Commissioner Shryock stated that a few gazebo type shelters would be nice, but nothing that
would encourage groups of 50 people to get together.

Chairperson Johns stated that the area should be large enough for a few people to stop and eat or
if bikers wanted to stop and get out of the rain.

Jason questioned what sort of interaction they are going to want with the lake.

One resident stated that the lake is not big enough for kayaks and canoes.

Another resident advised that it usually you put piers in where there are fish.

Schoenbrauer stated that it sounded like there should be a connection to the other parks and the
school and the north side of the lake should be kept natural.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated that he heard a couple thoughts for an observation pier or
dock. He stated that they could possibly put some fish in and use that as an opportunity to
educate that aspect of the environment.

One resident questioned if the water was safe in the lake and if they would want to encourage
kids to be in that water.

Park and Recreation CommissionlMarch 13,2008
Page 5 of 11
