EDA BUSINESS

Case #1:

Consider Participation in Sunfish Commons Sign Plan

Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan stated that at the last meeting, the Ramsey EDA
discussed the Sunfish Lake Boulevard construction project and the potential impacts of the
installation of the median.

Chair Riley arrived at the meeting at 7:05 a.m.

Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan stated that today's special meeting was to review
the actual costs for the sign plan proposed by Gaughan Companies and to discuss what, if any,
possible level of cost participation the City will give. He stated that his goal is to not end the
meeting any later than 7:45 a.m.

Member Kiefer asked how many feet it will be to make the electrical connection to the sign and
what amp service the sign will need.

Mr. Hebert stated that the electrical service will run from the mechanical room in Sunfish
Commons, near TNT Liquors, out to the sign, which is approximately 75 feet.

Chair Riley asked about the proposed LED display sign and how that will help mitigate the
potential impact ofthe median.

Mr. Hebert stated that the LED sign will help the tenants of the building because in retail it is
important to have access, visibility, and the ability to advertise. He stated that the LED sign
would allow the tenants to advertise specific specials or items. He stated that their concept is for
each tenant to participate in being on the marquis sign in some Wl;lY.

Mr. Gandel stated that the owners group are not big fans of the black, portable, temporary signs
with the neon lettering. He stated that the LED sign would give the tenants the ability to change
or amend the message on a regular basis.

Member Jeffrey asked if the LED sign would eliminate the use of the portable, temporary, neon
SIgns.

Mr. Gandel stated that they have been pretty liberal with the temporary signs, but feels that they
can certainly cut back on them with the LED sign.

Member Elvig asked if the temporary signs on trailers have been an issue.

Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan stated that there have been a lot of businesses
using this temporary signage.

Member Kiefer stated that he thinks usually there are only 1 or 2 of these temporary signs at a
time.

Economic Development AuthoritylMarch 20, 2008
Page 2 of 8
