Mr. Gandel stated that the ownership group is not a big fan of things like the big gorilla on the
roof or the dancing guys. He stated that their perception is that this "dumbs" down the building.
Member Kiefer stated that the electrical costs appear high to him
Mr. Hebert stated that the costs are higher because they will need to go through the asphalt and
concrete.
Member Jeffrey asked if the ownership group was willing to have community events advertised
on the LED signs.
Mr. Gandel stated that he would be happy to bring this suggestion to them.
Member Jeffrey stated that his feeling is, if the City participates in the costs of the signs, that the
trailer signs have got to go.
Mr. Gandel stated that will be fine and noted that those signs do not meet City code anyway.
Member Elvig stated that they don't, but the signs have still been on site.
Mr. Gandel stated that there is no on -site management of this building and agreed that sometimes
the tenants have taken liberties. He stated that there is a lease and the ownership group will
enforce these things if they are aware of them. He agreed that they have been more liberal lately,
but noted that if the City moves forward with this project, they will see that the leases are
enforced to the "T ".
Member Kiefer noted that the temporary trailer signs are allowed in the City for short periods of
time.
Member Jeffrey noted that they are allowed, if the user has gotten a permit.
Member Elvig asked if there needed to be 3 bids for the signs if the City was going to participate
in costs.
Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan stated that as long as the City is only reimbursing
them for a portion of the project, there does not need to be 3 bids.
Member Elvig asked if the City was going to participate, whether there was a better sign or
approach, such as the earlier suggestion of the multi - colored LED sign.
Mr. Hebert stated that depending on the City's participation, they could potentially take a look at
taking their sign a step further. He stated that the difference between the red LED light and full
spectrum LED is similar to the difference in television technology with the tube technology
versus HD technology. He stated that because they are using the existing pylon, the size and
dimensions will stay the same.
Economic Development Authority/March 20, 2008
Page 6 of 8
