Development

~

Building Safety Week May 5 - 11
Building Safety Where
You Live, Work and Play

When you enter a house
or building, most lil(ely you're not
thinking about whether it is properly
constructed and safe. Fortunately,
your local safety experts think about
building safety and fire prevention
every day. To help raise awareness of
building safety, the Ramsey Build-
ing Inspection Division is celebrating
Building Safety Weel( May 5 - 11.
Across the nation, communities will
promote the use and understand-
ing of building safety and fire pre-
vention codes to protect lives and
property. The theme is "Building
Safety: Where You Live, Work and
Play." "The important worl( we do is
often overlool(ed until a catastrophic
tragedy occurs," said Ramsey Build-
ing Official Mick Kaehler. "When
building safety and fire prevention
experts inspect buildings during and
after construction, we help to ensure
that the places where you live, learn,
worl( and play are safe."
Building safety and fire

prevention codes address all aspects
of construction, such as structural
soundness of buildings, reliability
of fire prevention and suppression
systems, plumbing and mechanical
systems, and energy efficiency and
sustainability. To ensure buildings
are safe requires the active participa-
tion of building safety and fire pre-
vention officials, architects, builders,
engineers, and others in the construc-
tion industry, as well as property
owners. "Public safety is our number
one concern," said Kaehler. "During
Building Safety Week, and all year
long, building safety and fire preven-
tion officials are here to help protect
you and your community."
Come visit the Ramsey
Building Division during Building
Safety weel( between 8:00 am and
4:30 pm. We will have important
safety tips for you and your family,
lots of treats, coloring books for the
kids, and much more.
Building Safety Week, first

Homeowner Workship Article
Continued from Page 1

facing foreclosure to attend this workshop. The most important thing a troubled
homeowner can do is to begin worl(ing with their lender or foreclosure special-
ist early. The earlier homeowners act, the more options they have.
If you can't attend the workshop and want to learn more, call the Min-
nesota Home Ownership Center at 651-659-9336. The Center works with a
networl( of community-based organizations in the Twin Cities that can help with
free, confidential advice about mortgages and foreclosure.

observed in 1980, is sponsored by
the International Code Council, a
membership organization dedicated
to building safety and fire prevention.
The International Code Council, of
which Ramsey is an active member,
develops the codes used to construct
residential and commercial buildings,
including homes and schools. Most
u. S. cities, counties and states choose
the International Codes - building
safety codes developed by the Inter-
national Code Council.
If you have any question re-
garding Building Safety Week, please
contact the Ramsey Building Division
at 763-433-9850.

The energy it takes
to recycle IS nothing
compared to
the energy it saves.

II ~ 'Ii. In
fact, when you trash a single can, it's like dumping
6 ounces of gasoline. Every RETHINK RECYCLING
can counts. Recycle more.
