Mr. Schroexl~ su ~a'nnarized this topic by stating that the City will continue maintaining its streets in <br />the current rn~thod but will encourage upgrading of the County and State roads. <br /> <br />D) Public: Safety <br /> <br />Councilmember Peterson commented that the Fire Department will continue to be ever-increasing <br />in their demaflds'for funds and equipment and added that it's difficult to compromise on public <br />safety. <br /> <br />Councilmember peterson stated Ramsey's Fire Department will need to work closely with <br />neighboring~:l~a~ments to which Councilmember Zimmerman added the Department will have to <br />have its shage'of ~quipment. <br /> <br />Councilmem _l~er Peterson commented that the Police Department is short officers, however, their <br />work space ls~linfited. <br /> <br />Police Chief Auspos stated it's important for the residents to feel safe and secure. <br /> <br />Councilmember Peterson suggested Chief Auspos review reports of bad intersections, lack of <br />proper signlff6g, otc. He added that the Fire Department is wanting to know where hazardous <br />materials arc ~tor~a:l in buildings in the City as there is a concern for their safety in a situation where <br />a fire would break out in such a building. The Fire Department has also mentioned wanting <br />medical emergency training. <br /> <br />City Administrator Schroeder inquired what the bottom line is on public safety. <br /> <br />Councilmem~ber Peterson stated that people have to feel safe and that the City has to fund to <br />whatever leVol that is. <br /> <br />Police Chiof:Auspos stated that follow-up and conclusions of a case is more important and <br />beneficial thah patrolling itself but the Department has to find time to do both. <br /> <br />E) Residenfi~ F) Commemial G) Industrial H) Agricultural <br /> <br />Councilmeml~er Zimmerman stated that some of the property owners on Highway gl0 are holding <br />on to their agricultural land for better offers. <br /> <br />Mayor Gilb6'rtson felt that agriculture in the area is temporary. <br /> <br />Councilmem~r Peterson stated that the City of Ramsey does not have quality agricultural soil. <br /> <br />City AdminiStrator Schroeder asked if Council wanted just single family homes with regard to <br />residential development. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman felt the City needed some multi-family dwellings and that they are a <br />good tax ba~o. <br /> <br />Councilmember Peterson asked to what density and if the multi-family dwellings would be for low <br />income families.
