CASE #1

SUNFISH LAKE PARK - MASTER PLAN
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor

Background:

The purpose of this case is for the Park and Recreation Commission to recommend Sunfish
Lake's Master Plan to City Council. At May's regular meeting, the Commission provided
additional direction on the preferred concept plan, with the intent of receiving a Master Plan for
June Ith,s meeting. Enclosed is that document, along with an estimated budget for the park's
development.

Observations:

Within the City's Parks Capital Improvement Program is $300,000 scheduled in 2008 to begin
development for Sunfish Lake Park. The Commission may wish to consider first identifying if
the Master Plan meets the objectives of the park space for the community. If there are no
significant changes warranted; it may be appropriate to recommend City Council approve the
park plan, and authorize staff to prepare a Council case to begin Sunfish Lake's development.
The funding would be from the Park Trust Fund.

In that it is anticipated the City Council members will participate in the dialog relative to the
park at this meeting; which is an opportune time to reach consensus on both the Master Plan, and
the timing for construction.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approval of the Sunfish Lake Master Plan, and that the Commission and
Council move forward with the plans and specifications for construction of the park in 2008.

Commission Action:

Based upon discussion.

Reviewed by:
City Administrator
Director of Public W orks/Principal City Engineer

P&R: 06/12/08
