He questioned if the presentations would be worth while in <br />the future, as they were the main point of the educational aspect of the event. <br /> <br />Board Member Freeburg advised that the energy costs are not going to go down within the next <br />year and thought that more people would be interested in saving on energy next year. He <br />advised that the commuter train should be about ready by the time the Environmental Expo <br />comes around next year and thought that they would build interest by utilizing the commuter rail. <br />He suggested that they talk with the people from Northstar Rail and try to get some tickets to <br />giveaway at the event for the commuter rail. <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that it might be possible, depending on when the <br />commuter rail is going to open. <br /> <br />Board Member Stodola advised that if the commuter rail is not ready to open by that time next <br />year they could giveaway a couple passes for the express bus instead. <br /> <br />Board Member Bentz advised that canopy tents with flags always catch his eye and questioned if <br />the City owned the land on either side of the Municipal Center. <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that he believed that the City does own a portion <br />of the land in front of the parking ramp but explained that people would not be able to see that <br />area from Highway 10. He advised that it might be a possibility to setup a tent like that in the <br />parking lot to have a hands on activity. He advised that there would be a possibility of having a <br />banner advertising the event hanging from the top of the parking ramp so that people would be <br />able to see it clearly from Highway 10. He advised that they would also need to have more <br />signage outside of the building stating that the Environmental Expo is being held there. <br /> <br />Board Member Freeburg thought that having a banner on the parking ramp would be a prime <br />advertising area. <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that one of the tree vendors had brought some <br />signs to put up for the tree sale, but explained that a police officer had stopped by and advised <br />that some of the signs violated the sign ordinance and needed to be taken down. He advised that <br />their event could not be treated any differently than an event from any other business in the City. <br />He advised that they did have two large black signs with neon lettering for the Expo that were <br />placed on Highway 10 and in front ofthe elementary school. He advised that is just the tip ofthe <br />iceberg as far as what can and needs to be done to get the attendance up for the event in the <br />future. He advised that assuming that they have a similar budget next year for the event they <br />should have enough funding for signage. <br /> <br />Case #2 <br /> <br />Discussion of Potential Future Projects <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he was asked to add this item to the agenda <br />after the Arbor Day activity had taken place last month to discuss future projects that the Board <br />could be involved with. He advised that this was just meant to get the brainstorming started and <br />stated that the Board would not necessarily have to decide on an event tonight. He wanted to <br />make it clear to the Board that planning an event would not depend on the donation of their <br />monthly stipends unless that is something they wished to do. He advised that there would be <br />some funding available for a reasonably priced project.
